Performing Arts Perspectives
We proudly announce that Victoria Halabi (2024) was selected to perform at the 2025 Performing Arts Perspectives Evening.
The highest-scoring WACE students are invited to audition, and a panel comprising representatives from relevant professional arts areas and the education sector chooses the performers to represent the breadth and depth of creativity.
The event showcases a selection of the highest-standard student performance from WACE examinations. It provides benchmarks of excellence in Dance, Drama, and Music for students from the Public, Independent, and Catholic education sectors/systems.
Victoria was chosen for her monologue, an excerpt from a play by British playwright April De Angelis called The Positive Hour.
The piece explores the story of social worker Miranda navigating specific issues in her clients’ lives. Paula, Miranda’s patient, delivers the monologue. She is a troubled woman who has lost custody of her 8-year-old daughter, Victoria Savage, and she is speaking with Miranda to try to get her back.
Regarding her performance at the Perspectives, Victoria shared,
“I was super excited not just to rework and improve a monologue that I am fond of, but also to work with people with similar interests and see the pieces people have prepared. So much time and work go into every piece, so seeing that all come together and knowing the work behind it is incredible.
I could not be here without my drama teachers; I seriously owe it all to them. The drama department was like my second home at school, and our ATAR drama teacher, Lisa Andrews, is one of the kindest and most dedicated people I have met. She has a world of knowledge and always goes above and beyond to ensure we are all as best prepared as possible; I really couldn’t have asked for a better drama teacher.
Thanks to Mrs Sharon Kiely, my love for drama and performing was developed beyond the classroom during opportunities, including their incredible arts fest and school musicals. Looking back, these were the highlights of my time at St Hilda’s and will probably be what I miss the most. As we grew up, we built a lovely relationship with Mrs Kiely, which made these events much more enjoyable. I don’t think finding that level of professionalism and talent at every school is common, so we were so lucky to be supported by such an incredible team.”
